In approximately 44% if all recorded knife crime a kitchen knife is the weapon of choice. Kitchen knives are easily available and the sharp, pointed ends makes them a potential weapon.
Scientists at De Montford University have designed and safety tested round ended knives and have shown that they are less likely to penetrate fabric when using a stabbing motion. Therefore, reducing the risk for them being used as a potential weapon.
Our local campaign is fronted and supported by Galton Blackistone, well-known local Michelin star awarded TV Chef, who has demonstrated the use of these safer knives to young people and staff in the school setting.
The safer knives that we are promoting and supplying are Viners Assure Safe knives.
The Joe Dix Foundation is urging every household to know what it in you knife draw, safely dispose of those that you don’t use and where possible replace all pointed end knives with rounder end knives.
Viners Assure Safer Knives can be purchased individually or in sets from the foundation. They are very competitively priced from £2.50 up to £25 to make them affordable for everyone.
